Out-of-network ER bill: your protection under the No Surprises Act
If you have private insurance and got an out-of-network bill for emergency care, the No Surprises Act protects most people. What to ask.
Check my bill freeWhat the law covers
For most people with private health plans, the No Surprises Act protects against out-of-network bills for emergency care, for some care at in-network facilities, and for air ambulances. Ground ambulances are generally not covered unless a state law says otherwise.
What to do
Ask your plan and the hospital to review the bill under the No Surprises Act. Keep the explanation of benefits from your plan and the itemized bill.
Then check the lines
Even when the protection applies, the itemized bill can still have duplicates or prices far above Medicare. BillCheck compares each line and writes the letter.
